• Marketing: The Market, Prices, Factors and Methods...The history of the agricultural market goes back thousands of years, and the current way in which we trade is far more advanced than in the 1200s. With this advancement, the market also becomes more complicated and more people get involved. The possibility of incurring risk also becomes greater. An important responsibility rests on the shoulders of producers – that of ensuring the safety of consumers. In return for this safeguarding, consumers actively take part in the market system and provide a demand-base for products. Agricultural producers and managers have to take a large number of elements into account when planning their marketing strategy. These elements (like seasonality, competition, perishability, transport- and storage requirements, etc.) can either increase or reduce production costs and may affect the viability of a product. The agricultural marketplace is one of strident competition and volatile circumstances which make it equally risky and exciting. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that marketing forms an essential part of successful agricultural production.
